1. Purpose
Learn Life First is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and young people. This policy explains how Learn Life First ensures that all children taking part in workshops are kept safe, respected, and protected from harm at all times.
2. Commitment to Safeguarding
Learn Life First will:
Provide a safe, supportive, and respectful learning environment.
Take all safeguarding concerns seriously.
Act in the best interests of the child at all times.
Work in line with the safeguarding procedures of the school or organisation.
Maintain clear professional boundaries with all children.
3. Scope of This Policy
This policy applies to:
All Learn Life First sessions delivered in schools or community settings.
The business owner and facilitator.
Any future staff, volunteers, or contractors working under Learn Life First.
4. Safeguarding Principles
Learn Life First follows key safeguarding principles:
The welfare of the child is the most important priority.
All children have the right to be protected from harm.
Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.
Early action is important
5. Roles and Responsibilities
Learn Life First Facilitator:
Holds an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service certificate and is registered on the Update Service.
Has completed safeguarding training at Level 2 or Level 3.
Delivers sessions in a safe and appropriate manner.
• Maintains professional conduct at all times.
Reports any safeguarding concerns immediately.
Schools or Organisations:
Remain responsible for safeguarding during sessions.
Must have a Designated Safeguarding Lead available.
Must provide appropriate supervision and staff presence.
6. Working with Schools Learn Life First will:
Always deliver sessions with a school staff member present.
Follow the safeguarding and reporting procedures of the school.
Report any concerns directly to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Learn Life First does not take on the role of safeguarding lead. This responsibility remains with the school or organisation.
7. Recognising Safeguarding Concerns Concerns may include:
Physical abuse.
Emotional abuse.
Sexual abuse.
Neglect.
A child sharing information that raises concern.
Changes in behaviour or appearance that cause concern.
Learn Life First recognises that safeguarding concerns can present in many different ways.
8. Responding to a Disclosure
If a child shares something concerning, Learn Life First will:
Stay calm and listen carefully.
Not interrupt or ask leading questions.
Reassure the child that they have done the right thing.
Not promise to keep secrets.
Explain that the information may need to be shared to keep them safe.
Record the information as soon as possible.
9. Reporting a Concern
All concerns will be reported immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead within the school or organisation.
A clear and factual record will be made, including the date, time, and details of what was said or observed.
Learn Life First will follow the safeguarding procedures of the school or organisation.
10. Professional Boundaries Learn Life First will:
Maintain clear professional boundaries at all times.
Avoid being alone with a child where possible.
Not engage in personal contact outside of sessions.
Not share personal contact details with children.
Use appropriate and professional language at all times.
11. Health, Safety and Risk Management
A risk assessment will be completed for all sessions.
All activities will be age-appropriate and safe.
Equipment used will be appropriate and hygienic.
Emergency procedures will follow the school's guidance.
12. Photography, Filming and Social Media
Learn Life First may take photographs or video footage during sessions for the purposes of promotional use, including on our website and social media platforms. The following conditions apply:
Photographs of the Facilitator Photographs or video footage may be taken of the Learn Life First facilitator during sessions for promotional purposes. These may be shared on the Learn Life First website, social media platforms, and marketing materials.
Photographs Involving Children Learn Life First will not photograph, film, or record children without prior written consent from both the school and the parent or guardian of each child. Where consent is granted:
Children will only be photographed in a manner that is appropriate, respectful, and in keeping with the educational setting.
Images will only be used for the purposes stated in the consent form.
No identifying information (such as full names or school names) will be shared alongside images without explicit permission.
Consent can be withdrawn at any time by contacting us at enquiries@learnlifefirst.co.uk
Where Consent Has Not Been Granted If consent has not been obtained, Learn Life First will ensure that no children are identifiable in any photographs or footage taken for promotional purposes.
Schools' Own Photography Schools or organisations wishing to photograph or film sessions for their own use must follow their own photography and consent policies. This remains the responsibility of the school.
13. Confidentiality
Information will only be shared with those who need to know.
Safeguarding concerns will not be kept confidential.
Records will be stored securely and in line with data protection requirements.
14. Safer Working Practice Learn Life First will:
Dress appropriately and professionally.
Use clear and respectful communication.
Avoid any behaviour that could be misunderstood.
Ensure all content is appropriate for the age group.
15. Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed every year or sooner if required.
16. Online Safety and Use of Technology
Learn Life First will:
Ensure all digital content used during sessions is age-appropriate and reviewed in advance.
Not use any personal devices to access the internet during sessions unless necessary for the delivery of the programme.
Not connect to school systems or networks without permission from the school.
Ensure any videos, slides, or digital resources used are appropriate for Year 6 pupils.
Not use any online platforms or tools that require children to create accounts or share personal information.
17 . Allegations Against the Facilitator If an allegation is made against the Learn Life First facilitator:
The school's safeguarding procedures will be followed immediately.
Learn Life First will cooperate fully with the school, the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO), and any other relevant authorities.
The facilitator will not attempt to investigate the allegation independently.
The welfare of the child will remain the priority throughout any investigation.
Learn Life First understands that all allegations will be taken seriously and handled appropriately.
18. Data Protection and GDPR
Learn Life First is committed to handling all personal data in line with the UK Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR. Learn Life First will: • Only collect personal data that is necessary for the delivery of sessions.
Store all records securely and confidentially.
Not share personal data with third parties without consent, unless required for safeguarding purposes.
Retain records only for as long as necessary.
Ensure that any concerns or disclosures are recorded and stored securely and separately from general business records Schools retain responsibility for the personal data of their pupils. Learn Life First will not hold pupil data beyond what is strictly necessary.
19. Behaviour Management
Learn Life First will:
Create a calm, respectful, and inclusive environment during all sessions.
Set clear expectations for behaviour at the start of each session.
Use positive and age-appropriate language at all times.
Not use any form of physical intervention or restraint under any circumstances.
Refer any significant behaviour concerns to the school staff member present.
Follow the school's own behaviour policy at all times Learn Life First recognises that behaviour can sometimes be a sign of an underlying safeguarding concern and will respond accordingly.
20. Whistleblowing
Learn Life First is committed to maintaining high standards of practice and welcomes concerns being raised openly.
Any concerns about the conduct or practice of Learn Life First can be raised without fear of negative consequence.
Concerns can be raised directly with the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead or the Local Authority.
Learn Life First will take all concerns seriously and respond appropriately.
Raising a genuine concern in good faith will never result in any negative treatment.
21. Ongoing Training and Development
Learn Life First is committed to keeping safeguarding knowledge and practice up to date.
The facilitator will:
Renew safeguarding training at least every two years, or sooner if guidance changes.
Keep up to date with changes to safeguarding legislation and best practice.
Maintain DBS registration on the Update Service at all times.
Reflect on practice regularly to ensure the highest standards of safeguarding are maintained.
